Prop 8 video comedy, from Bachmann and Limbaugh to Stewart and Colbert

Videos

by Adam Bink

We haven’t had much time to post too many other videos aside from what comes from the NOM Tour, of late. So I’ve been meaning to hit on a few that are comedy- comedy in two different ways, that is.

First is the chuckle-and-shake-your-head-that-people-like-Michele-Bachmann-are-in-Congress laugh:

You

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU24AbOqS_8&feature=player_embedded]

Same

See also his episode on how to ruin same-sex marriages (from August 5th) here.

Not to mention Jon Stewart’s Californigaytion clip. Simply awesome.

What other videos have you seen on the Prop 8 trial recently that are particularly noteworthy?

Ah, near the end of the Colbert video, a quick clip from "This Week in God." The only down side to Colbert going to his own show, is we don't get that segment on John Stewart any more.

Thanks for the vid of Michele Barfmann; she is bat-sh*t crazy and provides endless entertainment (and frustration) here in Minnesota!

If her district weren't so far from the core of the Twin Cities (it includes many suburbs), I'd consider moving into it just to be able to vote against her.

Barfmann is a tax attorney — but she can't be worth much if she doesn't know the difference between rational basis and rational people. Even I, completely unschooled in law, understand that the former is a legal concept while the latter includes a group of people to which Barfmann will never belong.

Gotta love her spin on the word rational!

Despite her entertainment value, she is an embarrassment to Minnesota. I honestly can't understand how she ever got elected — and she's in her second term! I hope the people in the 6th district vote her OUT in November!

(I live in the 5th district, which is represented by Keith Ellison — a Muslim who 100% supports marriage equality and GLBT rights.)

Good one Adam, the fourth video was funny, and you were right about your summary of RL, "roll-your-eyes." The satisfying thing about the federal court system is that it's insulated from the vapid, power hungry, control freek, religious republican party.

    Their anger is powerless.

Rush and I are diametrically opposed on so many topics that his show is actually sometimes entertaining to listen to … from a comedic standpoint, it's sort of like listening to Bob & Tom … the sad part is that I'm not sure if Rush is serious or just attempting to garner ratings.

  • 9. Richard A. Walter (s  |  August 12, 2010 at 12:37 pm

You could also do one of the videos that have NOT been posted from the Tour Tracker.

  • 10. Ann S.  |  August 12, 2010 at 12:37 pm

To garner ratings, I'm pretty sure.

  • 13. JC  |  August 12, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Yup. That's just as lovely today as it was almost 2 years ago. Maybe we should adapt this idea for the 60-second "change the court of public ideas" campaign, rather than just focusing on one couple that can't possibly represent our diversity? This works because it's so many different couples AND so many different perspectives (children, parents, aunts/uncles, co-workers, friends, et al). Please think about it.

I agree. I think pieces of each video, edited together.

This isn't a video, but I like it:

666, the house number of the Beast

A couple 6 doors down got married, and my husband started staying out late. A couple 6 miles away got married, my husband took up with some woman he met at the bar. A couple 6 states away got married, my husband divorced me and now I'm living alone in a trailer. Their marriages destroyed ours.

And I love Oded Gross' video "The Gays Are Getting Married" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rixkck8QnjY an oldie, but a goodie.

  • 16. Lora  |  August 12, 2010 at 1:42 pm

I still love that vid too!
Our 2 year anniversary is this Saturday!
Hopefully more couples will be able to join us soon!!

OK… since we are doing a silly video thread… I feel no guilt about posting tonights edition of "OneMan, OneWoman, OneBusdriver"

We pick up just after the scene where Maggie discovered that 2M4M has more… meaning… than even she had been given to understand…

SCENE ? – ON THE BUS – LATER THAT MORNING, JUST BEFORE THE RALEIGH RALLY.

The computer is still turned on, but to the NOM page, not the porn. Maggie stands about as far away from it as she can manage, her eyes and her mouth wide open. The door opens and Louis and Brian come in, laughing about something they saw outside. As soon as they see Maggie and notice the computer on, they freeze.

    MAGGIE: Oh! Uh… hi…

BRIAN (with a big fake smile) Oh! Hi! We were just… uh…

LOUIS (Trying to help, not succeeding) Just getting together… putting! Putting together! The podium and… looking at all the gays…ACROSS THE STREET! Because they are protesting! Over there!

MAGGIE Good! Good! You do that then! That is fine. I'll just go out and do… something… I have to…

BRIAN Right! You go! We'll stay here and do… something…. No! I'LL go, YOU stay…

    MAGGIE (Overlapping)
    No! YOU go… I'll stay…

She and Brian sort of dance around each other, avoiding touching, trying to maneuver who will go and who will stay with Louis.

LOUIS I could go… You could both stay.

Maggie and Brian look at each other, shudder, and turn back to Louis.

MAGGIE Better if you and Brian go… Outside… Where people are… And they will be watching… And ok… I will stay here and…look at the computer. NO! I mean, read a magazine…

She spots a pile of magazines in the corner. As she heads for them, Louis rushes over, grabs them and shoves them under the mattress of one of the bunk beds (the bus has built in bunks).

LOUIS NO! I mean, you wouldn't like these… They are… Bus magazines. All about busses. I do love me some bus… (he trails off, lost in his contemplation of "bus" centerfolds)

Brian smacks Louis in the back of the head to wake him up.

    LOUIS (CONT'D) Sorry.

    BRIAN Sorry.

LOUIS (trying to lighten the mood) So… I hear the judge is going to lift the stay! Everybody is saying so!

Maggie and Brian turn on him and stare at him.

LOUIS (CONT'D) (clears his throat, talks an octave lower, and stops waving his hands around) I mean… Uh…that is…

He gives up, shrugs his shoulders and says

    LOUIS (CONT'D) Oh fuck it!

He walks off the bus. Maggie turns to Brian and gives him a look of "What HAVE you done to that boy?" Brian responds with a look of "What? Who? Me?? Don't blame ME!" which sputters down eventually and Brian wears the look of a puppy who has just made a mess on the carpet.

MAGGIE (gathers her composure) Why don't you take a day off. Go see your wife.

BRIAN (in a voice not too disimilar to Louis high pitched tone, he whines) Awww… Do I HAVE to…

    He realizes how he sounds.

BRIAN (CONT'D) I mean… That is… Yes! Good idea. See the wife. Capital. I'll get right on that.

He marches off the bus. He marches back on and picks up his coat. He marches off the bus. He marches back on and picks up his cell phone, and with a chagrinned look, marches back off. He tries to march back on, but ends up sort of half heartedly sneaking like he is not there, with an embarrased half grimace, half grin, and picks up his car keys, and quickly slithers out. Through this, Maggie has been facing the camera, her hands over her face. The camera moves closer, and we realize she is softly sobbing into her hands.

    Fade to black.

Honestly Michele Bahcmann supposedly has a masters in law. While I haven't even completed my bahcelors I know the difference between rational thinking and rational basis. The woman is a complete fool if she thinks that her opinion matters in anyway to the 9th circuit appeals and the surpreme court.

Rational basis review, in U.S. constitutional law, refers to a level of scrutiny applied by courts when deciding cases presenting constitutional or issues related to the Fifth Amendment or Fourteenth Amendment. …

rationality – the state of having good sense and sound judgment; "his rationality may have been impaired"; "he had to rely less on reason than on rousing their emotions"

the two arent even close in meaning, one cannot be applied to people and the other cannot be applied to law, in theory anyways

Though not really about prop 8, this is Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks, a very Moderate online political/social review, on MSNBC. He pretty much outlines the reasons against gay marriage: None.

Hope you enjoy. I always love listening to him because he is always honest about every issue, whether I agree with him or not.

  • 25. Alan E.  |  August 12, 2010 at 11:58 pm

Wow Michelle couldn't get any more hypocritical! She does the same thing when she legislates. Too bad she doesn't understand the legal definition of rational compared to the colloquial definition.

This just keeps getting better all the time, Anonygrl. And if I don't get a role in this, so you need a good caterer? I have been told I am doing quite well with the kosher thing and that the food is delicious!
