This is puzzling

NOM Exposed Right-wing

Cross-posted at Waking Up Now.

by Rob Tisinai

Dr. Patrick Fagan writes:

Adoption is life-alteringly beneficial for children. Such is the general conclusion from a review of the literature.

Adoption in the first 12 months of the child’s life produces the best outcomes, but all children will benefit, regardless of their age at placement. Adopted children outperform their non-adopted peers and non-adopted siblings.

What’s so puzzling?  Fagan is writing for our opponents, the Family Research Council.  And this study is being promoted by The Ruth Institute — NOM’s youth outreach program.

You’ve heard of NOM, right?  And its founder, Maggie Gallagher?  You know, the lady who misuses research to argue that children do best when raised by both biological parents.  Maggie goes on interview after interview claiming traditional marriage must be protected because it’s how children can “love and be loved by their own mother and father” — meaning their biological mother and father.

That’s kind of a shot at adoptive parents, but Maggie needs to take that shot.  It’s the only way she can argue against marriage equality.   If adoptive parents count as real and valuable parents, then their families deserve the protections and stabilizing effects of marriage, too — and that includes families headed up by gay or lesbian couples.

Yet here we have NOM pushing a study that says adoption is valuable.  That adopted children outperform their non-adopted peers and non-adopted siblings.  That the sooner kids are adopted the better.

NOM is unintentionally highlighting the danger of letting kids languish foster care or institutions instead being adopted by loving, same-sex parents who enjoy all the family protections that marriage equality makes possible.

A commenter on the Ruth Institute’s website asked about this.  I’ll be watching closely to see what they reply.

Logical consistency has never been one of NOM's strong suits. Thanks for pointing out yet another of their logic failures!

This one's big. I hope people keep quoting them on it for a long time.

Reid schedules DADT vote, possibly as early as Saturday

When I first saw reference to this study I couldn't figure out what they were up to. It does contradict their 'biological parents and their natural children' refrain.

Interesting… I'm sure they meant "adoption by straight parents" of course. Gay parents don't exist to them.

Oh boy. Here we go again… :)

    (hoping for the best).

I heard Barney Frank, on Obermann tonight, and he as much as said they got this one in the bag,,,,I'm thinking,,,how can he be that sure,,,,,,, those republicans are shifty buggers,,,, and they're still threatening fillibuster blah blah blah,,,

Barney says, they counted the votes, this is the one thing they gotta do, ending discrimination is a must do,,,,, he also gave kudo's to Obama for his handling of this,,,,he says if it goes off the rails in Senate,,,, the court is the next stop,,, either way it's a done deal, and if I heard him right I think he said Obama would not defend it in court,, the survey alone and all the attention it has recieved has proved it's unconstiutionality,,,,,,,you go Barney,,,,,woot woot,,,,,,guess I'll spend Saturday glued to cspan……

I notice that study says nothing about the gender of the parents…

Right, that's what they mean to imply, I'm sure….but "the literature" doesn't support straight parents to the exclusion of same-sex parents, I bet. Lies, damn lies, and statistics, as they say.

They probably won't respond to the question. Just delete it.

I know already what the Ruth Institute will say. It will go something like this.
"Well, even when children are adopted, they do better with a mother and a father. They really don't do well with two mothers or two fathers, because that's just icky."

That is what they will say, if they even allow the comment to get past the moderation stage and actually see the light of day.
After all, this is the group that does not want their sheeple to see any opinions or any actual data, only those things that NOM spoon feeds them.

This is how you protect the children NOM……From Towelroad & the AP

Neo-Nazi John Ditullio, Jr. has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing a gay teen and stabbing a woman in New Port Richey, Florida in 2006.

    The AP wrote, last year:

"Prosecutors allege that Ditullio broke into his neighbor's home and stabbed two people — injuring 44-year-old Patricia Wells, the home's owner, and killing Kristofer King (Above), a 17-year-old visitor and friend of Wells' son. Wells lived next door to a mobile home that was commonly known as 'the Nazi compound,' which had large swastika flags flying on the property, authorities said. Ditullio was arrested at the mobile home after a SWAT standoff. Authorities called the stabbings a hate crime, and Wells agreed, previously telling local media that she believed Ditullio attacked her because she had a black friend — and because her own son was gay and Ditullio may have mistaken King for her son."

(me) this is the kind of sick twisted sociopaths NOM, Maggie "Shoe Flinger" Gallagher, Brian Brown Suit, Tony Perkins, FRC, FotF, afa, etc. etc…. gives ammunition too…They enable animals like this as well as fester & instigate hatred & ugliness like this….the most disgusting thing is that this animal can still get married….even before the murder was committed & now convicted….animals like this were still legally allowed to married the one they love…you know as long is was one man-one women….tell me NOM why is a murderer more worthy of marriage to the one he/she loves but I, as a gay man, am not?…. XI …..Ronnie:

P.S……by "This is how you protect children NOM"….I mean….putting animals like this in prison for life without parole….unlike what you do, NOM….which is give animals like this neo-nazi Ditullio guy reasons to attack & murder innocent people…you should look very hard into the roles you play in this type of behavior Maggie Gallagher & Jennifer Roback Morse…I'm just saying…..<3…Ronnie
