Now we're talkin….it's a tad long but still by the time interested me's attention span started to wain, still got the point.
Proactive. Call the haters on their lies. Speaking of which, isn't Perkins a spokesperson for a know hate group?

  • 2. Sheryl_Carver  |  September 2, 2011 at 11:13 am

    Good job, Sean!!!

Now, how to make sure those in the moveable middle see this?

  • 3. DaveP  |  September 2, 2011 at 11:27 am

YES. He is. The FRC has been designated a Hate Group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

And THAT is an example of the kind of thing we need to be saying when re respond to their message!

The video was well done, and I applaud the initiative it took to do it, but it was not strong enough. once again, THEIR message comes off as being more direct and OUR message came of as being a bit vague. When they lie, we need to say "That's a lie" and quickly, briefly, say why. And instead of hinting about their agenda, spell it out right up front. They are a hate group. They are lying about us to try to convince people to hurt us.

And I really think it would help if we explained – with examples – exactly what me DO mean when we say that SB48 will 'teach about LGBT people in age appropriate ways'. Example: teaching about how gay people were treated in Nazi Germany during a high school history class. Don't be vague. Be succinct and direct so people actually understand what SB48 is and what it does and does not do.

Great video Sean! So, can we take your show on the road?

  • 5. truthspew  |  September 2, 2011 at 11:55 am

Oh Snap! Sean nails it in this video. Perkins is an uneducated fool. But because he puts forth an air of authority he thinks his side will win.

And a rather bleak perspective, ""It may not be what the LGBT community wants to hear, but Equality California Executive Director Roland Palencia was quite blunt on a conference call with reporters last week when he acknowledged that should the referendum to overturn Senate Bill 48, the FAIR Education Act, make it to the ballot, we will lose."

I'll open this by saying I can't see the video here at work, so I'm just basing my statement on what others are saying …

I think we really need to play up the fact that FRC is a hate group — and perhaps bring this to the general public's attention at the beginning of an ad. "Would you base your opinion of African-American Studies on the opinion of KKK leaders? If not, why would you base your opinion of the Fair Education Act on the opinion of the leaders of another recognized hate group, the Family Research Council?"

  • 8. Paul  |  September 2, 2011 at 12:30 pm

Seriously EQCA? The FAIR Education Act repeal would read: "REFERENDUM TO OVERTURN NON-DISCRIMINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOOL INSTRUCTION" on the ballot. What's the percentage of voters that don't read any further than that? 30%? 50% 60%?

If they do bother to read further, the first thing that they read will be the actual text of the law: "Instruction in social sciences shall include the early history of California and a study of the role and contributions of both men and women, Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, European Americans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans, persons with disabilities, and members of other ethnic and cultural groups…"

And this is a campaign that we can't win or will be a formidable challenge? HOW? This law insures that the contributions of 90% of Californians is covered fairly. Practically anyone that votes against this bill is voting against themselves. If we can't win on that, then perhaps EQCA should just pack their bags and go home.

Taking a look at the FRC website for the first time, it;s interesting that, according to them, Republicans have a platform and Democrats have a PLANK. No supprise that including creation (which I happen to believe) in biology is learning, while giving historical figures such as Bayard Rustin their place in history is INDOCTRINATION. Incitement and bias is such an artform with these people, i think they qualifiy as bi-lingual.

  • 10. DaveP  |  September 2, 2011 at 12:37 pm

    YES! This is important.

And keep telling eveyone that the FRC is the same group that supports the "Kill the Gays" bill in Uganda!
    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/06/04/873020/-

We can use their own words and actions to ruin any appearance they may have of being a legitimate reasonable group of 'concerned citizens'. DO IT!

Stop Illegal Jailing of Abused Refugee — Tell ICE to Release Miguel Caceres Now! http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-illegal-jail

Miguel Caceres Juarez is originally from Honduras. Since he was 12yo he has been targeted, abused, & persecuted for being gay. He was tortured, raped, & beaten on several occasions by gang members. His own brother harassed, beat, & threatened to decapitate him. He came to the United States to escape death but Immigration & ICE detained him in jail seeking to deport him. On July 12 an immigration judge granted him protected status & halted the deportation but Miguel is still being imprisoned & ICE will not let him leave.

Please sign & share this petition to ask ICE Director John Morton to free Miguel Caceres Juarez…….Thank you……. <3…Ronnie: http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-illegal-jail

It's always the height of hypocrisy, that someone like the FRC, NOM and so on, say that children will be taught about gay people they suggest aren't appropriate for children to learn about.

But they've been indoctrinating and teaching their children about homosexual people, regardless of how old they are. They don't care how inaccurate their teaching is, or how dangerous it is or how threatening it is to the most casual contact between gay and straight kids.
They are talking about homosexuality and homosexuals to their kids ALL the time, and apparently are obsessed with doing it.

The only difference is they'd rather lie, and will deny that THEIR teaching is what has the negative and dangerous results.

So, can't see the video from work but am wondering…where will this video be shown?
YouTube? Broadcast TV? Anywhere other than here?
Is this just more of 'preaching to the choir'?

  • 14. DaveP  |  September 2, 2011 at 1:06 pm

When Prop 8 was on the ballot, the first two words on the ballot were "ELIMINATES RIGHTS" and yet 52% of the voters voted YES. Why? Because of all the scary lies they had been told about gays, and how a 'no' vote would 'hurt children and churches'.

Don't underestimate the power of scary lies about hurting children. That was the mistake we all made in 2008 (including EQCA) and we'd better not make it again. We need to fight their lies, loud and clear, until the general public is well informed about this and is as absolutely fed up with this BS as we are.

  • 15. FlexSF  |  September 2, 2011 at 1:22 pm

By way of Christianist zealotry, the gays are forced to participate in another referendum about sexism and homophobia. I fucking hate Christianists.

  • 16. Ann S.  |  September 2, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Hmm, didn't get an email notification of this one, but I saw the link on FB.

  • 17. Sagesse  |  September 2, 2011 at 3:11 pm

I didn't get the notice either.

  • 18. Reformed  |  September 2, 2011 at 3:18 pm

This is such a good point. Thank you.

  • 19. karen in kalifornai  |  September 2, 2011 at 4:04 pm

    Bingo

  • 20. Mark M. (Seattle)  |  September 2, 2011 at 4:05 pm

Adam, do we get answers to our questions about this video and other stratagies/plans/amo etc or not?

  • 21. Lodi Gal  |  September 2, 2011 at 6:54 pm

Perkin's little hate video is a training course for the tea party. No kidding. They say they are non-religious, and yet they're mainlining this stuff like it's divine prophesy–I heard some of the same lines verbatim all week. I love this debunking video.

  • 22. Sheryl, Mormon Mom  |  September 2, 2011 at 9:52 pm

You are so right. That people would vote to eliminate rights was unthinkable, and, yet, they did! And, yes, it was all of the "think of the children" propaganda and the half truths and innuendos that they used in their literature and signs.

  • 23. Fulton  |  September 4, 2011 at 8:02 am

Perhaps…though it is posted on YouTube and anyone can check it out. As with all things internet, we post our opinions and hope to connect and make a difference even to just one other soul.

  • 24. mark mead-brewer  |  September 4, 2011 at 8:32 am

I understand what you're saying however I disagree….the recent history of Prop8 is enough to show me that we need to be far more aggressive in combating the lies of the NOMbies. Hoping some one sees it on YouTube is just not enough……for me and my family.

  • 25. Lodi Gal  |  September 4, 2011 at 10:07 am

I read somewhere this morning that it's doubtful they'll be able to collect enough signatures to get it on the ballot, as time is running out for them very quickly. The Mormons and Catholics are not joining in this time around and without a giant influx of cash, it can't be done with volunteers in church lobbies.

  • 26. Ann S.  |  September 4, 2011 at 12:28 pm

Lodi Gal, maybe this is the article you read: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM

Unless someone writes them a big check to get paid signature gatherers, and soon, they may not make the deadline.

People who want SB48 gone are BULLIES.They get so sad when they hear an LGBT person killed themself or was harmed/killed,but the next day they are back to the same antics. In that way, they promote LGBT suicides and anti-LGBT hate crimes.ANTI-LGBT (or any other) BULLYING IS WRONG AND IMMORAL.This is a music video about anti-LGBT bullying made by Jamaican reggae artist Mistah Majah P .http://www.youtube.com/user/tripeandbean?feature=mhsn

Since then, I have been feasting on piping hot, delicious home
cooked pizzas, which I have eaten whilst sitting on the beach
at night. Sprinkle the top with Italian seasonings for garnish
and additional flavor. The stone is easily cleaned with warm
water, scraping off any pizza remnants with a spatula.
