LGBT Advocacy Groups File Motion to Intervene in Prop 8 Case

Our Family Coalition, Lavender Seniors of the East Bay and Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) file a motion with the court asking to intervene in the case against Proposition 8.  The three LGBT advocacy groups are represented by three of the nation’s most accomplished LGBT legal groups: the ACLU, the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) and Lambda Legal.  Because many of their members are gay or lesbian Californians who wish to marry but are barred from doing so by Prop 8, the advocacy groups argue that they “represent a broad and diverse range of people in the LGBT community who have interests in the issues raised in this case, in California and nationally.”

In addition, the groups point out that their legal counsel, Lambda Legal, NCLR and the ACLU, collectively represented the California couples who won the freedom to marry in state court, and have represented the plaintiffs in every case seeking marriage equality that has been argued before a state supreme court.
