Golden Oldie: Day 4 on the NOM California tour: Karyme Lozano says adios, cruel world
December 29, 2010
One of my all-time favs.
We at P8TT are taking Christmas through New Year’s off. Golden Oldies you requested will run in the place of regular posts. Regularly scheduled programming will resume on January 3rd–Adam Bink
If you missed the original interview Arisha conducted with Karyme Lozano, check it out before reading this post. Quite the goings-on today. Keep in touch, Karyme! — Adam
By Arisha Michelle Hatch
Stop #18: Stockton
Twenty minutes after 10 AM, the Vota Bus finally arrived at Weber Point park in Stockton with three large vans filled with 42 (predominantly Latino and male) members of an organization called Victory Outreach, a Christian men’s group that does outreach in inner-city communities. Three local equality supporters also stopped by to check things out. Here’s the Christian men’s group:
“I don’t know why I’m here,” one man said. “We’re just following the leader.”
Arisha talking to the pastor with Victory Outreach
It appears that Vota Tus Valores learned a little bit from yesterday’s events and are now attempting to organize. Can they keep it up? Will progressives continue to come out in opposition? Only time will tell.
A few notes on the tour setup. The Vota Bus is accompanied by three advance cars: two white Dodge Caravans (one has Nevada plates and the other has California plates), as well as a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Yesterday, the general practice seemed to be that 2 cars would scout the initial location – take note of any organized counter-protest and radio back to the Vota Bus. The caravan with California plates would then lead the Vota Bus to the scheduled location or to some sort of abandoned parking/Mexican restaurant based on some set of criteria that I can’t figure out.
My hunch is that they avoid locations with viable counter-protest unless there is some compelling reason that they must go to the location (like when a major news outlet is expected). Flashmob counter-protests may be the most effective way to counter.
Stop #19: Modesto
In Modesto, the Vota Bus stopped at a local farmers’ market bringing with them the three vans from Victory Outreach. Should we count those 42 in the tally again?
The Courage media blackout is still in effect. I kind of understand it, I wouldn’t want Alfonso speaking for my organization either. Karyme Lozano got a little feisty this morning as Alfonso rejected yet another interview.
“We saw your blog and we should see that you don’t show the truth, you change the truth,” Lozano said as she was hurried back onto the bus. I asked her and her comrades what exactly I “lied” about and she refused to respond. Watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N40C7BBZXBw]
Attention You cannot go around with a camera in a person’s face. It’s called freedom of movement. You’re harassing and being intolerant which is ironic because you say you are so tolerant.” Watch (he hurls this accusation starting at about the 0:53 mark):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efz2t_we4x8]
Meanwhile,
Later at the Los Banos stop – attended by seven supporters – a tour security guard told us on-camera that her exit was pre-scheduled; however, this conflicts with other reports we received on the ground. Sources close to the tour had no idea that Karyme had even left. The guard’s statement would be more believable coming from a more reliable source. The security guard has been extremely hostile to us throughout the tour.
Fiorina/Vota Tus Valores supporters
There were also those with pro-equality views
Minutes after issuing the statement, he apologized (off-camera) to our videographer Anthony for stepping on his foot while he was attempting to film an exchange between Alfonso and a counter-protester in San Jose. He said that it was unintentional because he has an artificial leg. Perhaps this is true, but it doesn’t explain why he intentionally bumped Anthony twice with force on two separate occasions prior to the incident.
We previously opted not to report this information, but now that the guard has chosen to give a conflicting on-the-record account with respect to Karyme’s departure, we feel that the facts go to his credibility.
Now, you be the judge, did I cross the line with Karyme? Did Adam’s earlier post on her participation in San Francisco Pride strike some sort of nerve with Karyme, the Vota Tus Valores organizers or the National Organization for Marriage?
We can only speculate because Alfonso refuses to comment to us about anything.

All I can do is laugh at these people who keep claiming they support the Constitution and its protections, yet do anything they can to deny those same protections, rights, freedoms, etc. to us!

I went to change.org and didn't see any petition for this. I did a search at the site and nothing came up for this guy. Got a link to the petition?

There is a link in the article from the advocate. In the article, I clicked on the blue "change.org that was in the article itself and was led directly to the petition.

Okay folks, here is another idiot we need to help remove from office. Help me rid NC of this idiot! He really has no inkling of the professionalism of our military, not to mention the fact that he is projecting his predatory fantasies on the Rainbow Tribe.
Thanks, Ed, for giving me the link to this via FB.

Before the video I will post, I just want to point out that although this year has been good for the Equal Civil Rights Movement, it is heartbreaking that so many lives will not see the new year come. One of my resolutions is to help stop more young lives being lost. To protect the children that NOM & Co. attack & refuse to protect (i.e. LGBT youth & the youth who have LGBT parents)….
What we have achieved this year:
– The rise of GetEqual, Give A Damn, It Gets Better, Queer Rising, Fight Back New York, & more.
– The SPLC finally designating those anti-gay groups, who rightfully deserve the title, as "Hate Group".
– Matty & Bobby breaking the Guinness Book of World Record for longest kiss.
– Constance McMillen & Derrick Martin bringing to light Freedom of Expression. While Derrick won the right to bring his boyfriend to prom, Constance had to struggle to bring her girlfriend. There were ups & downs, but in the end Constance won.
– Along with Constance & Derrick, joined Ceara Sturgis & Will Phillips, just to name a few of the American Youth to form a new generation of Equal Civil Rights Activists.
– Ricky Martin & Chely Wright (just to name a few celebrities) came out of the closet & shared their story with the world.
– So mant theme songs for the Equal Civil Rights Movement, such as: "Firework" ~ Katy Perry, "Raise Your Glass" ~ Pink. "All the Lovers" ~ Kylie Minogue, "Live Forever" ~ Matt Morris, & 3 different songs titled "It Gets Better" ~ Todrick Hall, Chris Salvatore, & Broadway Stars.
– Section 3 of DOMA ruled unconstitutional in 2 separate cases.
– DADT ruled unconstitutional
– Prop 8 ruled unconstitutional
– Civil Unions Legislation passed in Illinois.
-Marriage Equality legalized in Washington, D.C.
– Marriage Equality legalized in Portugal, Iceland, Argentina, & Mexico City.
– America's most extensive & inclusive anti-bullying Legislation legalized in New Jersey.
– Adoption for Same-gender parents in Florida is Awesomeness.
– Several Openly LGBT candidates elected & won their seats all over the country.
– Lastly, I love this quote from Truth Wins Out- Year in Review: "1) Repealing Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell was a monumental victory. Not only was this an impressive and meaningful legislative win, but the fight for repeal flooded the media with positive gay and lesbian role models, which significantly undermined the propaganda of anti-gay organizations. The images of brave gay service members will endure in our culture long after the victory celebrations stop."
I'm sure I'm leaving out something…but as you can see this year has been good for us…lets make next year even better…. not just for us, but for the children….& on that note…I would like to share this video with the P8TT Family & with the spirits of all those we have lost this year, keeping their families in our hearts….I wish everyone a Happy New Year……<3….Ronnie:

OT, but still something I think we should all know about. The feds are investigating Tea Party candidate Christine "I'm Not a Witch" O'Donnell's Campaign Spending.

Oh how I hope NOM gets sued for violating copyright laws…not only are they using clips from the FCKH8 video without permission from the creator…but they are now using a photo from the video to raise money, also without permission from the creator….
NOM's hypocrisy knows no bounds…their inability to abide by the laws of this country also knows no bounds…..this is so classy…..I specifically enjoyed this statement from Good As You:
"The boy in the image? Yea, that would be one of the kids from the FCKH8 video. As in: A kid whose pro-equality parent/s presumably know about his involvement. As in: A kid who never asked for NOM's "protection." As in: A kid who is not one of NOM's children, but rather a young member of NOM's pointed opposition. As in: A kid who NOM says is exploited via his sanctioned participation in the FCKH8 campaign, yet feels is being "protected" by this unsanctioned, forcible participation in NOM's own fundraising efforts. How dare Maggie and Brian and company use this kid in this way?!"
NOM with all do resect…..Go F(BLEEP)K yourself…I hope you are forced to use every cent you begged for from your sheeple the last few months…..Your blatant violation of copyright laws is unethical & immoral & quite frankly makes you look like a thief…so many sins…..REPENT!!!…..REPENT!!!!…….Good job NOM…..FAIL!!!!!!!…….<3….Ronnie

Watch… they will try to claim that it is the same as Courage Campaign using a PARODY of the Protect Marriage logo.
Of course, it is NOT, but I bet that is the tack they will take. Legally, they won't have a leg to stand on, as they are using the image of the kid's face with no legal release forms to allow them to do so. When parodying the logo, Courage Campaign created their own version, and it did not involve using an actual person's image without permission… these are just a few of the reasons that NOM should have their socks sued off of them for this.
I swear, they get dumber every day over there. Aside from just being plain wrong in their aims, their methods range from copycat to stupid to downright illegal. Even given that their followers are not the brightest bulbs on the tree, how is it that NOM, who seem to stupid these days to tie their own shoes, manages to find funding?

Thanks for reposting this coverage from the tour! I wonder what Ms. Lozano thinks about the whole thing now?
I love the comment from the article, “Attention Vota Tus Valores: Karyme has gone rogue.”

I just looked at some of the video I was excited to see some protesters I knew. I also was reminded when ever those freaky pro-life Christian come on campuses the first thing they do if anyone questions there rights to be on campus is break out a video camera. Funny I see them saying it is illegal to film them but the first thing most of these groups do is break out a camera if you question them being on public property. What is even better is these protester were in Merced area mainly a bible belt area of California.
