Breaking: Civil unions bill advances out of Colorado House committee

Civil Unions

By Jacob Combs

The Colorado House Appropriations Committee voted this morning 9-4 to advance a proposed civil unions bill, according to ThinkProgress.

One Republican representative, Cheri Gerou, voted in favor of the bill.  Gerou was also a co-sponsor on the legislation.

The bill had already cleared the House Judiciary Committee late last month by an 8-3 vote, also with the support of one Republican legislator.  Today’s vote means the bill can now move to the full House, where it is expected to pass.

The Colorado Senate voted 21-14 in favor of the civil unions bill in mid-February.  Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, has said he will sign the bill into law if it is approved.
