I can understand nasty custody fights, I guess, but I can't wrap my head around taking a legal position that hurts everyone in the community, especially in a case like this one where they had to work around unfairness in the law in order to get a second-parent adoption in the first place.

This one certainly hurts the children that the one parent claims to love….but yet will prevent the other parent from seeing her children…….and Alabama failed to acknowledge the Georgia's Court right to rule as they did!!!

I hope at the end of this, the children aren't the ones who pay the ultimate price!!

From the comments on Towleroad, it appears that the civil unions bill has been gutted beyond recognition and that the key governing party will not be supporting the bill (in large part). I think we can expect that the Civil Unions bill won't ever see the light of day and that we'll have to wait until the CC is ready to reinterpret Article 29 of the Constitution.

I'm inclined to agree with them since it doesn't seem to have made any progress since October.

Marriage equality is one of many issues the Republicans have HANDED to Obama. Their whole strategy is simply to oppose anything Obama wants. So all Obama has to do is take the popular side of any issue and you can bet the Repubs will take the other side.

But opposing marriage equality isn't necessary extremist. That's an argument we're still having, at least for a little while longer, until the Supreme Court decides. Meanwhile a lot of Republicans still don't think blacks should be allowed to vote! Or that interracial marriage should be illegal. These were issues settled 50 years ago! Now THAT'S extremist!
