State Dept. issues first passport with X gender marker
October 28, 2021
NPR reports:
The U.S. State Department has issued the first official passport with the gender marker “X,” a change the Biden administration promised this year in order to make the documents more inclusive for people who identify as nonbinary, intersex or gender-nonconforming.
The department will be able to offer the option to all passport applicants once it finishes updating its systems and forms by early 2022, according to State Department spokesperson Ned Price.
The new gender marker has been sought after by LGBTQ groups for years. The first passport was issued to Dana Zzyym, who sued when Zzyym was denied a passport with a correct gender marker. More on Zzyym’s case can be found here.

Supreme Court of Mexico: New Decision Expanding Marriage/Cohabitation Rights
Per "Homosensual:"
On 27 October 2021, the Supreme Court of Mexico determined that for parties who are living with HIV, Aids, or any other chronically incurable infirmity, be it one that can be transmitted or that is hereditary, the state must not be in a position to impede the rights of said parties to contract marriage or to unite in cohabitation.
The First Chamber issued the ruling in a case from Edomex of a person living with HIV about whom the state had been attempting to deny the recognition of their cohabitation rights following the death of their partner. The ruling declares that the decision about whom one can contract marriage or unite in cohabitation rests solely with the parties involved, and thus, does not rest with the state.

The current ruling builds upon and thus reinforces the earlier marriage equality decision. Whereas the 2015 marriage equality jurisprudence eliminated the state's restrictive sex distinction for contracting parties, the instant ruling further eliminates the state's restrictive "health" distinction for contracting parties. In both instances, said restrictions were deemed by the court to be violations of human rights.

San Marino Expands Civil Union Law, Equalizing It with Marriage
Per LGBT Marriage News:
On 24 June 2021, the Sanmarinese Parliament passed a law expanding the existing civil union law of 20 November 2018, by making clear that all other laws referring to marriage or married couples apply equally to civil unions:
Le Unioni Civili tra persone dello stesso sesso o di sesso diverso sono previste da:
– Legge 20 novembre 2018, n.147 – "Regolamentazione delle unioni civili."
– Legge 24 giugno 2021, n.115 – Modifiche normative per il coordinamento della Legge 20 novembre 2018, n.147 – “Regolamentazione delle Unioni Civili.”
A San Marino possono contrarre matrimonio o unione civile anche gli stranieri.

Foreigners can also contract marriage or civil union in San Marino. Opposite sex couples can contract marriage. Same-sex couples (stesso sesso) and opposite sex couples (sesso diverso) can contract civil union.

The Sammarinese are dancing *right* up to the line. (at the level of "I'm not touching you" said in the back seat of a car 5 hours into a on a 7 hour trip to grandma's house) I'm having problems coming up with any country that has been as close to Marriage Equality without having it.

San Marino now appears to be at the same level as Andorra, that is, they are maintaining the legal separation, while claiming that civil unions possess all of the same rights as marriage. In any case, this change pushes San Marino ahead of Italy, Liechtenstein, Greece, and Cyprus, the other remaining countries of western Europe still maintaining separate civil unions for same-sex couples.

And Andorra will have marriage equality any time now.

Actually, in their plan, there still won't be *absolute* marriage equality. Basically, Andorra will have two types of marriage: Civil Marriage which can be performed on either opposite-sex or same-sex couples and Religious Marriage which can only be performed for opposite-sex couples. However the resultant marriages (Civil or Religious) will be equal under the law.

Doritos Mexico Ad for "El Día de los Muertos" (The Day of the Dead)
"Nunca Es Tarde Para Ser Quien Eres" (It's Never Too Late to Be Who You Are)
A new cartoon ad for Doritos Mexico has been released in time for "el Día de Los Muertos," the Day of the Dead. The commercial features a family paying respects to their late uncle, who turns up with an unexpected guest.
The Day of the Dead is a Mexican and Latin American holiday observed each year on 1-2 November that celebrates the memories of deceased loved ones.
In the ad, as the family steps toward an altar called an ofrenda, an older woman places a bowl of food on it. The woman then speaks in Spanish to a photo of an older man standing alone. “Dearest brother, I miss you so much,” the woman says
The altar’s orange glow from the candlelight turns blue, and a blue fog overtakes the ofrenda. The family, including a young woman snacking on Doritos, looks surprised. The man in the photo appears to the family in front of the ofrenda, except now he has blue skin. The family welcomes him, calling him Uncle Alberto. “Hello, family,” Uncle Alberto says. “How is everyone?”
Another ghostly man appears from behind Uncle Alberto with Uncle Alberto smiling on. One of the family members says, “Who is he?” “He’s Mario,” Uncle Alberto tells them, “my partner.” Uncle Alberto and Mario then hold hands and smile.
The family gasps before the older woman claps. She tells Uncle Alberto, “What a miracle! I thought you would be alone forever.” Uncle Alberto and Mario embrace as the family walks toward them.
The ad cuts to the title: "Nunca Es Tarde Para Ser Quien Eres.“ (It’s never too late to be who you are.)

Alabama probate judge who said George Floyd 'got what he deserved', frequently used the N-word, shared porn videos with employees and ogled women's breasts is ordered removed from bench
As probate judge, Jinks is responsible for ruling in cases that include adoptions and guardianships, mental health commitments, and the issuing of marriage licenses.
Jinks, a Republican who was elected to a six-year judgeship in November 2018, does not have a legal background. Probate judges do not need a legal background to serve in Alabama.

Alabama: Trump-Loving Probate Judge Fired in Unanimous Ruling
On Friday, 29 October 2021, the Alabama Court of the Judiciary unanimously ruled to remove Talladega County Probate Judge Randy Jinks from the bench for having violated several of the state's Canons of Judicial Ethics, guidelines directing judges to uphold the honor of the judiciary, maintain decorum, and avoid impropriety.
The same Alabama Court of the Judiciary is well known for firing Roy Moore as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court on two separate occasions. Moore would go on to run for the US Senate in the 2017 special election, only to implode spectacularly amid allegations he molested multiple women and teenage girls.

Talladega County, in the east central part of the state, was not one of the hard-core 8-10 Alabama counties that steadfastly refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Still, in 2018, that county's voters managed to take a giant leap backwards by electing an unqualified Trumpian Republican as Probate Judge, one without any legal experience who also proved to be harboring serious racist and sexist issues.
