Judge Walker Rules on Motions to Intervene, Issues Scheduling Order in Prop 8 Case

In an order, Judge Walker issues a ruling on the various motions to intervene in the Prop 8 case and issues a schedule for the trial to take place in early 2010.  Judge Walker denies the motions to intervene filed by both the Our Family coalition (represented by the ACLU, National Center for Lesbian Rights and Lambda Legal) and the Campaign for California Families, and grants San Francisco’s motion in part “to allow [the city] to present issue of alleged effect on governmental interests.”

In his scheduling order, Judge Walker calls for the designation of witnesses and discovery (the pretrial phase where lawyers where lawyers can interview witnesses for the opposing side and request documents to build a case) to occur by the end of December 2009.  He sets an opening date for the trial for January 11, 2010 at 8:30 a.m.
