Michigan county clerk drops defense of state ban on marriage equality in DeBoer

The outgoing county clerk of Oakland County, Michigan, Bill Bullard, files a request with the district court hearing the DeBoer challenge to the state’s marriage equality ban asking to withdraw a motion to dismiss the case in which he defended the ban’s constitutionality. ¬†Bullard’s request comes after his loss in the November 2012 election to Lisa Brown, a Democrat. ¬†As the county’s new clerk, Brown’s decision signals to the court that Oakland County, where the couple challenging the state ban resides, wishes the court to consider the lawsuit.
